In collaboration with the National Association of Counties (NACO), Beaufort County Veterans Affairs is celebrating Operation Green Light for Veterans for the month of November.

Beaufort County's Government Buildings in the County Plaza including the Administration Building, the Arthur Horne Building and the County Courthouse will all be lit green for the month of November. The green lights serve as a visible expression of gratitude and support for veterans and their families. Through this tribute, Beaufort County recognizes their service, sacrifice, and lasting contributions to our community and nation.

According to NACO's website: America’s counties have a long and proud history of serving our nation’s veterans, a legacy that continues to this day as we work with our federal, state and local partners to ensure that the former service members have access to the resources they need to thrive.

“Operation Green Light is more than illuminating buildings in green. It is a visible reminder to the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform that their service matters, their sacrifices are remembered, and their community stands behind them." said Caroline Fermin, Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Director. "I encourage every home and business in Beaufort County to shine a green light this November as a simple but powerful expression of gratitude. As a community with deep military roots, we have both the privilege and the responsibility to ensure our veterans feel seen, valued, and supported—not just on Veterans Day, but every day.”

Now in its sixth year, Operation Green Light is spearheaded by NACO and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO), building upon successful efforts by the New York State Association of Counties and the NYS County Veteran Service Officers’ Association in 2021.

In 2025, 412 counties across 44 states participated in Operation Green Light. This year, NACO and NACVSO are inviting the nation's 3,069 counties, parishes and boroughs to participate, with hopes of achieving larger numbers.
